Automatic Sliding Door Closure

The patented Glidestar Automatic Door Closures designed for the trackless breakout sliding doors are typically installed in hospitals for ICU doors, clean room facilities, fire doors, and laboratories. This automatic doorclosing device is also used on patio sliding doors for energy efficiency, convenience, security, and safety of having a patio sliding door automatically closed.

The Glidestar door closure is a pneumatic automatic door closing system which comprises; a weighted piston enclosed within a cylindrical shaped tube, with one end of a fiber cable attached to the weighted piston which extends over the top of the tube in a concealed pulley housing and the other end of the cable attached to the head jam or cover of an ICU trackless sliding door.

The inch and a quarter cylindrical tube attached to the trailing front edge of the sliding door panel is designed to be inconspicuous and blend in with the door unit. When the door is opened the cable attached to the head jam causes the weighted piston to rise up inside the tube while pulling air into the tube through a valve at the bottom.

On the bottom of the weighted piston there is a rubber u-cup that seals the weight to the inside of the tube. When the door is manually opened to the desired opened position and then released the door starts closing automatically as the weight drops inside the tube. As the weighted piston drops the rubber u-cup compresses air through an adjustable valve at the bottom. The speed of the door closure as it closes the door is dependent upon the value adjustment.

The door closure is also designed with a pivoting pulley housing at the top of the door closure unit to allow the door closure to go into the breakout position. This design also allows the pulley housing and the cylinder to return to the properly aligned position when the door is put back into the sliding position without any mechanical adjustments needed.

The Glidestar Automatic Door Closure meets the need within hospitals with ICU trackless breakout sliding doors as it allows these rooms to maintain a negative pressure, because the hospitals are describing these rooms as isolation units used for anybody with a contagious disease. One way to have these rooms pressurized is to have the doors closed all the time. In recent years, the demand for the automatic self-closing device has become more prevalent.
